QuickBooks 2010 provides a clean, understandable framework for all of the financial tasks a company must undertake: General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and Payable, Payroll and Inventory. It provides banking tools and reports, and supplies decision-makers with information that helps them plan for the future. Numerous new internal features and external links in the 2010 version of QuickBooks Premier give you more flexibility and marketing power, and help you save time and mone QuickBooks 2010 is extraordinarily easy to use. The opening screen employs a process map, a kind of graphical flowchart, that depicts how the major elements of the program work together and takes you to those elements with a click. The map is divided into five sections, each of which contains a grouping of icons: Customers, Vendors, Employees, Company, and Banking. These icons are supplemented by standard menus that contain additional options, and a modifiable toolbar that gives you easy access to commonly used tasks. Peachtree works similarly, though its interface isn't quite as elegant as QuickBooks'. QuickBooks also offers individual pages, or, "Centers," for Customers, Vendors, and Employees. These screens isolate the records and transactions related to each. The Customer Center, for example, displays a list of customers and jobs in a pane on the left. Click on one, and that individual's transactions appear on the right. Buttons at the top take you to tasks like creating new transactions or customers, importing/exporting data to/from Excel, and building customer mailings in Word. Overall, the forms and records in the Centers should meet small business needs, especially considering the customizability of forms and definable fields in records, but they could be better. Peachtree, for example, lets you create multiple contacts and addresses for each company, and displays a sales history for each. But QuickBooks 2010 has new functionality in this area. You can now group-edit multiple lists of items, customers, and vendors, and paste Excel data directly into records. Also, QuickBooks now supplies a variety of background designs for your transaction forms, and offers paid design services. You can change multiple form types simultaneously now, too, applying a design to more than one document. The 2010 version also offers the ability to scan documents directly into QuickBooks and attach them to records and forms, which can help clean up a lot of office clutter.
