Gauss Description

Gauss is a software program developed specifically for math students or professors, which helps them visualize lines and surfaces expressed through algebra. The interface of the program is very simple in design and resembles quite a lot the one used in Windows ’98. Despite all this, getting around the program can be pretty easy, but only if the person working in it happens to have a good understanding of algebra. The application displays the lines and surfaces you are interested in, on most of the main window, and in the upper part of the main screen there is a Menu Bar, in which you are able to factor in all the Variables and Parameters, define z as a function x and y and, lastly, change some Settings. Basically, the Menu Bar is all an individual needs in order to control the entire program, which is a very simple and user-friendly feature. The Gauss application allows the user to move the viewpoint through 3D space with the help of the mouse, but also the keyboard. Furthermore, the person using this tool has options like displaying a surface, a mesh or a combination, and the number of steps on each edge (level of detail) can be controlled. In this program you are also presented with a lot of mathematical expressions to choose from like: polynomials, trig, hyperbolic exponential and logarithmic, rational, series sums and products. All in all, Gauss is a helpful software application, with an outdated interface. The program is user-friendly, but only if he or she happen to be well-versed in all things pertaining to algebra.
