ARPing Description

ARPing is a command line tool designed to test the network connection by using ARP or ICMP requests on a specified IP address. It is designed to work under multiple operating systems and can ping a remote IP address by broadcasting ARP packets. The tool can be used by network administrators in order to probe the IP addresses from a remote network in order to identify the ones that are available. The tool allows you to configure the packets sent to the IP address by specifying the source address which can be useful when you haven’t configured your network interface. You can also specify the target MAC address when pinging a certain address. You can view the results of the communication in the console and customize the messages by only displaying the error messages or the discovered MAC or IP addresses. Unfortunately, the list of commands does not include the option to export the results to an external file. In order to avoid network communication issues you can specify the time interval between two pings and set the app in promiscuous mode when the MAC address specified in the parameters is not owned by the user. ARPing provides you with multiple options compared with the Windows ping command but it is not designed to replace its usage. You should use it for finding unused IP addresses by sending ARP and/or ICMP requests.
