SOHO Cam Description

SOHO Cam is a lightweight widget that, at one point, allowed you to view a slideshow of images from SOHO. The Solar & Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO, is a project between the European Space Agency and NASA which is intended to study the Sun’s deep core along with solar winds. The spacecraft was built using both European and American instruments and constantly relays high quality image to its headquarters. SOHO Cam displayed a desktop slideshow that contained the images taken by the spacecraft. The interface of the widget was a comprehensive one and allowed you to manually advance through the images, view their resolution and the date in which they were taken. You even got a window from where you could choose the size of the images. The past tense is used quite often in the text because for a while now, Windows gadgets have been discontinued due to various and serious security issues. Widgets offered hackers the means to easily invade your privacy through the use of installed widgets. This way, they could either extract valuable information or even control your computer. So, with the little desktop applications now gone, SOHO Cam serves you no purpose now. It is though a small reminder of a really good idea that was put to practice in a simple and fun way.
