Create new PDF files of access and edit the existing ones by changing the contents of the texts, adding or removing images and graphics, adding comments and notes, importing tables and structures performing spellchecking, and converting the files to and from XMP, BMP, GIF, ICO, JBG, PBM, PGM, TGA, PCX, DCX, PNG, JPG, TIFF, EMF, RTF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, PPT, TXT. PDF XChange Editor is intended to visualize, annotate, edit and secure PDF documents. The product has a very nice interface that looks similar to those of many other text editors. As a result, its basic features can be used by most users, regardless their level of expertise. PDF XChange Editor supports opening standard PDF files as well as Microsoft Office documents, RTF files, and multiple image formats. Moreover, it can create a new document from scratch or from the scanner. Likewise, it can convert a series of images into PDF pages. Luckily, it allows opening documents from the Cloud. Not only that, it can also merge various PDFs. Good news is that the editor can be used to convert between formats, thanks to its support of various output formats, including not only PDF but also multiple image types, PPT and DOC. The program can be used to read PDFs and, while you do that, you can annotate and comment using shapes, text, hyperlinks and even audio files. Moreover, you can highlight and underline the text in the document. One of its assets is that the program has multiple tools that allow you to edit documents. There is even the possibility to redact the contents by removing parts of the text or given objects. In this respect, it is probably as powerful as the leaders in the industry. The editor also includes a set of tools intended to protect your documents. These allow using signatures, certification and time stamps. Similarly, the program can encrypt PDFs with highly effective algorithms of up to 236 bits. I have to say that I was generally pleased with this product’s features. However, there is one I found extremely unsatisfactory: its optical character recognition, which actually failed to provide a single comprehensible string out of a scanned material. All in all, PDF XChange Editor can be the right substitute for much more expensive software. In fact, most of its features can be used for free while the ones that require payment can be tried but leave a watermark on the pages. There are two editions of this product: Standard and Plus. The latter includes the possibility to create and edit fillable forms.
