Hinterland is an RPG/Strategy game developed by Tilted Mill. The game features a mixture of hack and slash elements of RPG games with the city-building elements of strategy games. There is no particular story in the game, as the gameplay is non-linear. The most basic objective you have in each map is to clear it from baddies. This does not mean you have to go out and slash every living thing you see, because you will end up loosing. So for this you should build a city. You do this by inviting other characters to the city. Once they settle in, they will provide a useful service to the community, maybe they are doctors, blacksmiths or magi. To progress and develop new items for them, you should provide them with resources. You do this by heading out into the map and clear out the baddies around the resource areas. Now you should keep a balance in building a city and forming your war party. If, for example, you take a doctor to war, he/she won't be able to do research in town. The good thing about Hinterland is that you don't get too boggled with the RPG element that you cannot attend the strategy element and vice versa. That doesn't mean the game is not challenging. Besides keeping your city in development and earning levels on the field, you should gain fame. You do this by completing your King's requests and generally not screwing up in anything else. There are small annoyances with the menu interface and also some minor bugs. However, these do not spoil the fun of the game.
