Fractint Description

The beauty and complexity of fractals has ensnared many users and not necessarily those with inclinations towards the exact sciences. Nonetheless, looking deep inside one or customizing its parameters would not be possible without the help of a utility like Fractint.Dull interface for splendid shapesWith the package unwrapped, you can start the application immediately as it doesn't have to be installed and comes with all the necessary dependencies. The looks are certainly not its strong point, but its practicality compensates for that. Loading files is possible only if they are in GIF format, but opening a fractal is done by selecting the desired formula from the dedicated menu. Customizable fractals and viewsEach time you choose a certain formula, Fractint offers you the possibility to adjust the parameters prior to opening that fractal. For those who need more configurations, these are available from the 'Basic Options' and 'Extended Options' areas. 3D parameters can also be adjusted, so you will be able to modify the default values for rotation, and perspective. To zoom in or zoom out of a loaded fractal you may have to activate the 'Zoom Bar' then play with the zooming box to understand how it functions. For example if you want to go inside the fractal, you just have to make a selection and double click inside the box to zoom in. Reverting to the original view can be done by moving the slider towards the 'Out' position and then using the zoom out box like explained above. Decent performance and feature packAll things considered, Fractint is quite well equipped for what it is supposed to do and it moves smoothly, even when performing complex calculations required when adjusting the position in or out of the fractal. The appearance is its main downside, but once you get to use this app, you might like giving it a second go. Reviewed by Olivian Puha, last updated on February 26th, 2014
