Thus, this comprehensive application is not only an excellent amateur photo editor, but also a photo organizer, a photo viewer, and a slideshow creator. Therefore, you can also use this program to keep all your digital photographs cataloged and organized, and export them in any of the most used image formats. This extensive functionality comes wrapped up in a stylish, attractively designed interface with just the settings you need to make things work the way you want them, but without being tangled up in too many technicalities. As a viewer, it offers you the possibility of browsing through all your folders and collections easily and with an excellent picture quality. From here, you can improvise your personal slideshow for a closer look to your favorite shots. This utility will also allow you to categorize your photos using the classic (yet effective) 5-star method. As an organizer, Artensoft Photo Editor combines all the features you already had in the “Viewer” section with others more catalog-oriented. It will display all your active photos as thumbnails - showing the stars you gave to each of them – and will give you access to your active folders, your albums, and keywords, allowing you to assign each picture to as many folders and albums as you wish. Despite the existing default categories and sections, all of these are completely customizable – you can add, delete, and modify them according to your preferences in an intuitive and efficient way. Now, as an editor, the program still has room for improvement, if we compare it with professional tools such as Photoshop (not that Artensoft has ever claimed to be as good as them), but it has more than enough features for the amateur photographer. It offers you all the basic adjustments you may need – automatic and custom color levels, cropping and straightening functions, blur and color special effects, etc. Some of the results of applying these functions can be viewed in a classic ”Before-After” double window, and whatever change you make in your photographs can, of course, be reverted and cancelled. The slideshow function is as simple as 1-2-3. Just select your preferred images and the program will do the rest. Finally, any amount of photos can be easily exported as JPG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, or PNG with just a few clicks. As the program supports EXIF data, these can also be exported with the photos. Therefore, if only you take the time to play with this application for a while, you will certainly be as nicely surprised as I was.
