GNOME Screenshot (gnome-screenshot) is an open source and free graphical software written in GTK+ and designed especially for the GNOME desktop environment. It can be used to take screenshots of applications, as well as the entire desktop environment. GNOME Screenshot was part of the GNOME Utilities (gnome-utils) package and could not be installed separately. However, since version 3.3.1, the GNOME Screenshot utility was split from gnome-utils into its own package, allowing its use on other desktop environments, such as Cinnamon or LXDE. The tool features several command-line options, which allows users to create keyboard-based shortcuts for taking screenshots to windows, area or entire root window.
